Please watch a short video about Dorothy Day, the founder of Fargo - Moorhead Dorothy House of Hospitality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsJw2S1wJQg.

Based on your impressions from the visit to the Dorothy Day Food Pantry and the information in the video, answer the question below.

1. Who was Dorothy Day and who did she advocate for?---Dorothy Day was a woman that she tried her best to help homeless people and poor people and donated homes to them, she was also a woman who helped the development of Catholicism.  She advocated homeless people to have positive attitude to live and encouraged more people to help them.

2. What is the mission of  the food pantry you have visited today? Write 200 words.---The mission of the food pantry I have visited today is donating food and clothes to homeless people. In that food pantry, every poor family can get some food ( the quantity of food is depend on the amount of family member) and get 20 clothes every month. The food pantry helps 44 families per day(for average). We can see different types of food, such as vegetables, meat, milk, grain, jam and bread. This food pantry also receive clothes and shoes which be donated by other citizens, and it works like a agent that collecting donation and handing out to poor families. It provides basic living stuffs to poor families and builds limitation to them to get the donation. It is good that they gives limitation to poor families, because they can not only help poor families but also encourage them to try their best to earn more money or create more wealth by themselves.  In my opinion, the real definition of help is helping people for a long-term, so I think the food pantry also has some shortcoming that they just provide food not help poor families to earn more food. There is a saying in China, giving fishes is not as good as teaching how to fish. So I think the side effect of food pantry also exist that they may help poor families' lazy attitude;poor people may think" I can get basic living need at here so I need not do more things any more." It is not good at social development for a long-term excepting teaching or encouraging them to work.
